A Study on Status of Maternal and Child Health in Urban and Rural Area


Abstract
A study on the status of maternal and child health in urban and rural areas: was carried out on the present availability of 733 wives (urban area: 458 cases, rural area 275 cases) from July to September 1976 by question-answer sheets and the results were obtained as follows.
1. The mean frequency of pregnancy was 5.2 and 6.6 times in urban. And rural areas with a significant difference statistically, respectively. 2. There was remarkable difference as to place and attendant of delivery between urban and , rural areas; the hospital or health center was 38.4% and 12.3%, home, 58.2% and 86.2% in urban and rural areas respectively. 43.9% and 14.9% of deliveries were attended by doctor or midwife in urban and rural areas respectively.
3. There was a significant difference in antepartum and postpartum care between urban and rural areas; such was seemed to be related to reduced incidence of obstetric complications in urban area in comparison to rural area. 4. There was a significant difference in duration of rest at postpartum, feeding methods of infant and one set of weaning between urban and rural areas. 5. The vast majority of respondents agreed with family planning, 34. 6% of urban area and 38.4% of rural area were practicing some form of contraception, but there was no significant difference between them.
6. There was a significant difference in induced abortion, but no difference in spontaneous abortion between urban and real areas; induced abortion rate was 42.8% and 32.4% in urban and rural areas, respectively.
